Come join us at a professional learning summit to introduce teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators to project-based math modules and provide support for use! Standing Rock Tribal Education Department is partnering with Sitting Bull College, Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Central, and Standing Rock schools, educators, Elders, parents/caregivers, and community members to create real-world, hands-on math lessons targeted primarily for children in third through fifth grades, though teachers in our design team are also working to expand to additional grades. Our collaboration is focused on designing high-quality materials that welcome the culture and lived experiences of students into the classroom and help students see math as engaging, relevant, and fun. So far, we have developed modules that focus on food in the community and Indigenous design.
Participation details: Participating teachers and instructional coaches serving Native American students in Standing Rock can receive a $75 per hour stipend to attend the 2-day session in person. Participating teachers, coaches, and administrators can earn 1 graduate credit towards recertification through Sitting Bull College (credit fee will be covered).
