The North Dakota Registered Apprenticeship Program for Teachers (RAP‑T) provides paraprofessionals in local school districts with a no‑cost “earn and learn” pathway to becoming licensed teachers, helping address the statewide teacher shortage. In July 2023, North Dakota was awarded a U.S. Department of Labor grant—one of only seven states selected—to expand this innovative approach. Through RAP‑T, paraprofessionals gain valuable classroom experience while completing the requirements to transition into teaching roles, creating a sustainable local pipeline of future educators and reducing financial barriers along the way.
