State School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler on Monday urged North Dakotans to apply for two pending openings on the Board of Higher Education, which is the policymaking and advocacy board for the state’s 11 public colleges and universities.

North Dakota School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler said 17 libraries and schools across the state have been awarded $255,000 in grants to help cover costs for local programs that encourage summer reading.

State School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler on Thursday invited North Dakota high school juniors and seniors to apply to participate in the 2025 U.S. Senate Youth Program, which features a $10,000 college scholarship. The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. Central time on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024.

The following amounts will be used for the 2024-2025 school year to determine the school district's responsibility (cost cap) for educating resident students.

They are:

• Kendall Bergrud, a mathematics teacher at Wachter Middle School in Bismarck;
• Macie Harris-Nelson, a music teacher at Kenmare Elementary School;
• Ashley Nudell, who teaches family and consumer science at Lisbon High School; and
• Kayla Tatro, who teaches English, math, science, music, and technology at Roosevelt Public School in Carson.

North Dakota School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler said new state guidance about artificial intelligence has been designed to help local schools develop their own AI policies, and help teachers and administrators work more efficiently.
