Exemplary Grant Activities
District Activities
Beach Digital portfolios are being created for each high school student to track progress for Choice Ready. We will be utilizing Office 365's OneDrive to upload supporting documents for each of the Essential Skills. Staff members will develop the system and assist the students in creating their online folders.
James River Special Education Cooperative We will partner with Kulm Public School to create a classroom space to expand the culinary arts area. In this partnership, the culinary arts area has a stove/oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, sink, over-stove exhaust fan, and moveable island. The overarching goal is for all students to work cooperatively to learn and grow in the area of culinary arts with an end goal of starting and continuing a school-based enterprise such as a coffee shop that the students, staff, and community could access.
Lisbon

Lisbon had one of the highest scoring applications, which included numerous activities all designed to graduate more students Choice Ready, including:

  1. ACT preparation
  2. Career exploration activities
  3. Online courses through the NDCDE
  4. ASVAB test preparation
  5. Capstone project
  6. Food handler certificate
Magic City High School They will create a recovery program that meets the needs of students who are not making progress on the academic portion of their four-year-rolling career plan, increasing graduation rates, and student achievement. They will also create recovery courses in core subjects to help students close the credits gap, make more time for students to explore their interests, and ultimately graduate choice ready.
Maple Valley All students 9-12 will engage in a community service day opportunity for district patrons with limited resources and mobility. Each class will be supervised by its class advisors. This will include opportunities for students to participate in window washing, leaf raking/branch cleanup, etc.
Mt. Pleasant Mt. Pleasant will implement an Annual Independent Living Day for 12th graders. Local businesses will set up booths. Students will be given an income to buy essentials needed for daily living. Students will speak to our local housing authorities, car dealerships, insurance agencies, utilities, social services, daycare, etc. This will give students a chance to work on communication skills, develop professional contacts, and provide a glimpse of adult life and the importance of education and training.
Napoleon Napoleon intends to share the importance of the ASVAB with this year's juniors by giving a tour of the National Guard facilities if 75% of them get a 31 ASVAB score.
Northern Cass A Game of Life Simulation will provide learners with meaningful experiences that will enhance their postsecondary and workforce readiness by providing them with the tools and pathways for their future. The simulation will be run like the Game of Life: learners will begin with a set amount of money based on the average salary of the career they choose for the day. They will then interact with the various booths as "citizens/players" in the game simulation, earning or spending money based on life choices or adverse events they experience. This real-life simulation will allow students to learn more about higher education and careers in which they might be interested.
Sheyenne-Valley CTE Sheyenne-Valley CTE will utilize the product CareerViewXR by Be More Colorful, which combines high-resolution video and pictures to create an immersive, interactive experience that, combined with a quality Virtual Reality headset, lets the user experience these career options in a virtual format. Users get a feel for the typical work environment they might expect once employed in that capacity. It also allows users to complete a virtual field trip and/or a job shadow.

Session Topic: Using CREAM to Become Choice Ready

Session Description: This session will introduce participants to the CREAM program. This online learning platform is designed to assist students who did not meet the benchmark required to participate in college level mathematics and English courses. Students who take the program can prevent having to take remediation courses in the areas of mathematics and English when they enter college. The presentation will also explain how the program may be used to assist struggling seniors in English and struggling juniors and seniors in mathematics, as well as explore the skills covered in the program and explain supports available for this program.
