Beginning in the 2025–2026 school year, the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction (NDDPI) will launch a two-year Mathematics Screening & Intervention Pilot Program for students in grades 4 through 8.
This statewide initiative is designed to identify and support students’ individual math learning needs through skill-level screeners, assessments, and targeted interventions. These tools will help measure progress across multiple grade levels, inform instruction, and strengthen student achievement in mathematics.
Key features include:
- Individualized learning tools that provide screening, progress monitoring, and intervention support aligned to North Dakota’s 2023 Mathematics Content Standards, skills progressions, and competencies
- Data-driven insights to identify student needs, track growth, and improve instructional decision-making
- Professional development for mathematics teachers to effectively implement the screening and intervention tools and use data to guide instruction
The pilot will operate through the 2026–2027 school year with up to $300,000 in funding dedicated to program implementation and training. NDDPI will collect and analyze data on student outcomes and program impact, with findings reported to the 70th and 71st Legislative Assemblies to inform future statewide efforts in mathematics education.
