Districts may apply for up to two positions in shortage and critical need areas in which teachers may receive teacher loan forgiveness. The amount of loan forgiveness for teachers in district-approved positions is dependent on the category of the districts (rural/remote or non-rural/non-remote) per North Dakota Century Code (NDCC) 15-10-38. Non-rural school district or non-remote town school district has the same meaning as defined under the National Center for Education Statistics Locale Codes and also includes rural and/or remote school districts with one thousand or more students
(NDUS Procedures 508.1.2).

Teacher positions approved through the district application process (recipients) are eligible to receive loan forgiveness up to the maximum award.
