The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction (NDDPI) encourages parents, guardians, caretakers, and other family members of children in grades K-12 from all regions of North Dakota to apply to become a member of the State Superintendent’s Family Engagement Cabinet. The next round of applications will be sought in December 2020. Cabinet members will have the opportunity to share their ideas about how North Dakota families and schools can better work together to support the education of all children. The Family Engagement Cabinet provides an outlet for you to share your experience as a parent, guardian, caretaker, or family member in North Dakota. It will assist NDDPI in facilitating partnerships and collaboration with families and schools. Twenty to 25 people will be chosen for this diverse group. The Family Engagement Cabinet will meet every three months with Kirsten Baesler, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Cabinet members will be expected to: Attend quarterly meetings in Bismarck. Serve a term of 18 months. Members may apply to be appointed for a second term. Travel to Bismarck for in-person meetings. Come prepared for each session, work collaboratively with each other and with NDDPI staff, and engage in open and respectful dialogue. Submission Requirements Participants must provide: A cover letter introducing yourself and your reasons for wanting to participate in the Cabinet. Completed and signed application form. Selection Process Applications will be scored according to the submission requirements and evaluation criteria shown in the application itself. Selections also will reflect the need for broad Cabinet representation from across North Dakota. All applicants will be notified in writing whether they have been chosen. Assistance to Applicants with a Disability Applicants who have a disability that needs accommodation should contact NDDPI before the deadline for applications, so that reasonable accommodations can be made. Reimbursement NDDPI will reimburse cabinet members for round-trip mileage from home to meeting location, and reimbursement for lodging (if appropriate) at North Dakota state rates.
