An applicant can renew their license 6 months prior to their expiration date.

To renew a license, log into your ND Teach account here. Click "Begin Application" and then "Renew License".

The requirements for renewal of a license depends on the type of license an applicant currently holds. The online application will ask questions to help determine the appropriate license for which one is qualified to apply. Once the online application is submitted, the applicant will be able to view "To Do Items" which tell the applicant what is needed for renewal. Any unofficial transcripts or other documents can be emailed to ESPB at espbinfo@nd.gov

If you currently hold a 5 year license, the re-education requirement is 6 semester hours of college coursework. Those 6 credits do need to be completed during the 5 year time period that you hold the 5 year license. We ask that the courses you take to renew your 5 year license relate to education and/or what you are licensed to teach. If you have any questions about the credits needed to renew a license, call us at 701.328.9641.

Renewing a Reciprocal License:

A two year Out-of-State Reciprocal License can be renewed for an additional three years of licensure by following these steps:

  1. Log into your ND Teach account and submit the online application for a Reciprocal License.
  2. Upload any new unofficial transcripts for courses you have completed to meet requirements on your reciprocal plan.
  3. Upload any Praxis test score reports for any tests you have passed. (ESPB is not sent your score reports when you complete a test.)
  4. If the Youth Mental Health training is on your reciprocal plan, this must be completed in order to renew. You can complete free online training through The Jason Foundation. Then upload your completion certificate to your online renewal application.
  5. Upload a signed and dated statement, agreeing to complete all remaining Reciprocal requirements on your plan in the next three years.

** If a licensee does not file a completed renewal application, including the required supporting documentation and the renewal fee before the expiration of the license, the licensee shall be assessed a late fee of $100. If this fee is assessed, it must be paid before the license can be renewed.
