If you have been involved in a motor vehicle crash, which has resulted in at least $1,000 in property damage, you have probably received a Damage Vehicle Release (DVR) sticker from the law enforcement officer who investigated the crash.  Every motor vehicle crash in North Dakota which results in property damage of $1,000 or more, injury, or death MUST be immediately reported to law enforcement

 To increase public awareness of impaired driving and impaired-driving related motor vehicle crashes and to deter citizens from choosing to drive impaired, the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Dickinson Police Department, and Stark County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Friday, Oct. 12 at a predetermined location in Stark County.

After successfully completing a comprehensive training program and field training, ten troopers graduated from the North Dakota Law Enforcement Training Academy on Friday, Sept. 14.  The newly sworn North Dakota Highway Patrol troopers began the academy on Jan. 8 and completed the 24-week training and field program in late August.

North Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper Gerald Baumgartner recently represented North Dakota at the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) annual North American Inspectors Championship (NAIC). The NAIC is the only event dedicated to testing, recognizing and awarding commercial motor vehicle inspector excellence. Fifty-two jurisdictions sent their best inspector to compete against other top inspectors from across North America for the 26th annual competition held in Columbus OH August 14-18. The event is held in conjunction with the American Trucking Association’s National Truck and Step Van Driving Championship each year to help foster an environment of cooperation between enforcement and industry in Highway Safety.

On July 28, 2018, the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) was awarded advanced accreditation with excellence by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®). The NDHP, accredited since 1989, also received a meritorious award for being accredited for more than 15 continuous years. The NDHP must comply with more than 350 professional public safety standards to maintain its accreditation status.
