On Saturday, Sept. 8, the North Dakota Highway Patrol and Williams County Sheriff’s Office conducted a sobriety checkpoint on the Highway 1804 south of US Highway 2, west of Williston. The checkpoint was held from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm. 128 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, with eight vehicles stopped for further testing. The testing of those vehicles resulted in:

  • 2 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • 2 arrests for possession of a controlled substance or drug paraphernalia
  • 1 open container citation issued
  • 2 arrests for driving under suspension

Following the sobriety checkpoint, a saturation patrol of the area resulted in two additional arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and one arrest for minor in consumption of alcohol.

Through Sept. 2 of this year, 29.8 percent of North Dakota fatal crashes have been alcohol-related.  The ND Highway Patrol urges drivers, if you plan to drink, plan ahead, and designate a sober driver.
