On July 28, 2018, the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) was awarded advanced accreditation with excellence by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®). The NDHP, accredited since 1989, also received a meritorious award for being accredited for more than 15 continuous years. The NDHP must comply with more than 350 professional public safety standards to maintain its accreditation status.

“This was the highway patrol’s first Gold Standard assessment, and I’m proud of our employees for continuing to prove they’re capable of meeting the highest standards of professional excellence in the field of law enforcement,” said Colonel Brandon Solberg.  “NDHP employees work tirelessly each and every day to keep North Dakota safe and secure, and their level of professionalism was evident during CALEA’s comprehensive assessment.”

CALEA was established in 1979 through the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, the National Sheriff’s Association, and the Police Executive Research Forum.
