The Criminal Records Specialist I maintains the state central repository for criminal history information with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. By utilizing this centralized data, criminal history record information is disseminated according to the limitations established by applicable laws and administrative rules. The person in this position will:Examine fingerprints on fingerprint cards for completeness and clarity;Notify agencies of incomplete or incorrect data;Conduct criminal justice record checks for federal, state, and local enforcement agencies and courts, and non-criminal justice record checks for agencies and the public;Receive, document, and reconcile fees;Participate in in-state and out-of-state training seminars on fingerprint. examination and related topics; andComplete other duties as assigned.In addition to the monthly salary, this position includes fully paid health insurance for employee and family, the option to participate in employee-paid dental and vision for employee and family, participation in the state NDPERS defined benefit retirement plan as well as the option to participate in the 457 deferred compensation plan, the option to contribute to a medical spending account, and earning annual and sick leave.Employees in this position are eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.Location of Work: This is a non-remote position located at the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation office in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Minimum Qualifications

An associate degree and two (2) years of work experience performing a variety of complex office support, clerical, or secretarial work. including opportunities functioning as a project coordinator, team leader, or lead worker. The hiring authority will consider substituting additional work experience for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis if the experience provides the knowledge and skills required to perform the duties of this position;Demonstrates working knowledge and understanding of personal computer operations, including experience in navigating Windows, utilizing word processing and spreadsheet applications, and managing databases;Proven skill in communicating tactfully with a strong focus on delivering exceptional customer service;Ability to establish and maintain effective harmonious working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the public;Capable of preserving sensitive information with discretion;Excellent prioritization, time management, and organizational skills;Displays exceptional speed and accuracy in typing/keying; andSuccessful completion of the interview process, along with reference checks, and extensive background and criminal record checks.
