The 2018 spring road restrictions on state highways are or will soon be in effect. The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) utilizes load restrictions to reduce damage to the roadways caused by heavy loads in spring when highway pavements are most vulnerable. 

To enhance safety for school children, North Dakota Highway
Patrol (NDHP) Troopers in the northwest region will partner with school officials from Des Lacs Burlington schools to conduct a ‘Trooper on a Bus’ enforcement effort on Tuesday, March 27.
 

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA ^®) will arrive in Bismarck on April 2, 2018, to examine all aspects of the North Dakota Highway Patrol’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services. 

To enhance safety for school children, North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) Troopers in the southwest region will partner with school officials from Golva Elementary School to conduct a ‘Trooper on a Bus’ enforcement effort on Tuesday, March 20.

On March 4, 2018, an NDHP Trooper stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation, and with the assistance of NDHP K9 Fia, discovered 30 bundles methamphetamine weighing 32 pounds and 54 bundles of marijuana weighing 35 pounds in the vehicle.

Have you ever wondered what happens when you call 911?  North Dakota State Radio answers 911 calls for twenty-five North Dakota counties and coordinates the 911 services of emergency medical, fire, and law enforcement response. State Radio is located in Bismarck and is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. 

I had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Brandner’s class at Wishek High School last month regarding numerous topics, such as laws and policing.  Most of the questions were centered on alcohol possession and use by juveniles.  I’m addressing some of those questions in this month’s article.

Governor Doug Burgum, along with the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT), North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) and the North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH), launched Vision Zero as the state’s primary traffic safety initiative. The comprehensive, multi-agency effort’s goal is to continually work toward zero motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries on North Dakota roads. Each participating agency has a lead role in both educating the public and implementing state laws with respect to traffic safety.

“As a state, we must continually reinvent how we think about traffic safety -- what issues motorists are facing, what technologies help us or distract us - and work to ensure everyone gets home alive,” said Governor Burgum. “While government plays a key role in traffic safety, we can’t view this as solely a government issue, which is why the mission of Vision Zero is so important. By emphasizing the personal responsibility to buckle up and obey the law, we reinforce that prevention is every North Dakotan’s responsibility.”
