A statewide Hour of Code is planned with dozens of school districts on Thursday, Dec. 12 as part of a nationwide, annual event hosted by Code.org. Held in conjunction with Computer Science Education Week and coordinated by Microsoft, the event is part of a broader effort to give students of all ages opportunities to learn about coding and computer science as foundational 21st century skills.

North Dakota organizations now have until Monday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. Central Time, to apply for grant funding to help improve their capacity to develop, strengthen and integrate programs that allow older adults to remain in their homes and communities as long as possible. The original application deadline was today.

Gov. Doug Burgum and First Lady Kathryn Burgum encourage the public to join them for holiday readings, music and carols at the annual North Dakota State Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 5 in Memorial Hall at the Capitol. The theme of this year’s Christmas tree is “Building Bridges of Hope,” inspired by the first lady’s platform of eliminating the shame and stigma associated with the disease of addiction and encouraging others along the road to recovery.

In a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) sent today, Gov. Doug Burgum underscored the severity of North Dakota’s propane distribution and supply issue and requested that the FERC take further action to increase the supply of propane to the state.
