Governor Doug Burgum signed a proclamation today declaring April 10-14 Community Development Week. Since 2003, the state of North Dakota has received over $87 million in Community Development Block Grant funds. With these funds, we have been able to undertake many projects throughout the years to benefit communities and residents of North Dakota, many of which are low- and moderate-income persons.
National Community Development week spotlights the impact that CDBG funds have on communities throughout the United States, including communities in North Dakota that have recently been awarded CDBG funds, such as Portal, Rolette, Woodworth, Harvey, and Bowman, among others.
The CDBG program is among the few flexible sources of federal funds that remain available to rural governments for community development. Projects must primarily benefit low-and moderate-income persons.
The CDBG program has been funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The North Dakota Department of Commerce, Division of Community Services administers the program for the State except for the following HUD entitlement jurisdictions: Bismarck, Fargo, and Grand Forks.
