While there is no requirement to be licensed to performed truck inspections, certification is required. These requirements can be found in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49. Requirements include completing a training program, experience as a mechanic or a federal or state inspector, or similar experience. The inspector must also be familiar with Parts 393, 396, and Appendix G of the Code of Federal Regulations. Forms for conducting the inspections can be obtained from a state motor carrier association or are available at truck stops. More information can be obtained from the ND Motor Carrier Association.
