Writer/Journalist 

Location: Bismarck, ND State Capitol

Hiring Salary: $4,500 - $5,500 per month (depending on experience)

 

Summary of Work

The North Dakota State Auditor’s Office is working towards a better government by providing truthful, objective and independent information through audits for the citizens of North Dakota. We do this by following our core values: respect, excellence, leadership, integrity and teamwork.

We’re looking for a writer to take our technical audit reports and increase the readability for the public to better understand how we’re producing informative audits to improve government. Major duties will include:

  • Assist in writing and responsible for editing audit reports to ensure readability and grammar.
  • Plan, draft and design one-page summaries of key findings from audit reports.
  • Design infographics for audit reports, flyers, brochures, PowerPoints, social media, etc.
  • Serve as a back-up administrator for the agency website and assist in maintaining a consistent social media presence.
  • Maintain inventory of slides, photos, clip art, videos, artwork and other materials developed.
  • Develop design concepts for website pages, brochures and other documents; compose informational brochures, etc.
  • Write clear, compelling copy for various mediums including but not limited to local publications.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English, Advertising, Marketing or related area from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing with colleagues and audit clients; including excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Requires successful completion of the hiring process including reference, background and criminal record checks.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • In addition to the degrees listed above, have a master’s degree or major/minor in accounting, business, management, finance, economics, communications and/or computers.
  • 3-5 years of writing for media outlets.
  • Proficient with computers including the use of the Microsoft Office Suite and the Adobe Creative Suite.
