Auditor IV 

Location: Bismarck, ND State Capitol

Hiring Salary: $6,500 - $8,000 per month, depending on experience

 

Summary of Work

The North Dakota State Auditor’s Office is working towards a better government by providing truthful, objective and independent information through audits for the citizens of North Dakota. We do this by following our core values: respect, excellence, leadership, integrity and teamwork.

This position will take the lead on relaunching our Bismarck Political Subdivision office. This person will lead a team of 2-4 people to conduct audits within 23 types of political subdivisions defined in NDCC 54-10-14. This position will be expected to travel. Fieldwork for audits will be conducted away from the office and is typically limited to one overnight at a time. Estimated travel time is 35%.

  • Plan, direct, and conduct audits of financial statements under AICPA Clarified Statements on Auditing Standards, Government Auditing Standards, and, where applicable, Uniform Guidance as applies to Single Audits.
  • Prepare audit reports of a moderately complex nature or assist in preparation of audit reports of complex nature.
  • Assist client with preparation of financial statements and related note disclosures.
  • Develop or modify and apply tests of internal controls and compliance to identify deficiencies in internal control or compliance.
  • Assist with developing and preparing estimates and proposals for audit services for new and existing clients.
  • Supervise professional and paraprofessional staff to ensure efficient and effective completion of audit objectives.
  • Assist with review of local government reports prepared and submitted by independent public accounting firms.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related area from an appropriately accredited institution
  • Four years of auditing experience which includes functioning as a lead auditor.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing with colleagues and audit clients.
  • Requires successful completion of the hiring process including reference, background and criminal record checks.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have a professional certification such as CPA, CIA, CFE, CISA, etc. and/or have successfully completed one or more sections of the CPA exam.
  • In addition to the Accounting or Business-related degree, have a master’s degree or major/minor in accounting, business, management, finance, economics, communications and/or computers.
  • Proficient with computers including the use of the Microsoft Office Suite including advanced knowledge of spreadsheet applications such as Excel.
