Auditor III

Location: Bismarck, ND State Capitol

Hiring Salary: $5,000 - $6,000

 

Summary of Work

The North Dakota State Auditor’s Office is working towards a better government by providing truthful, objective and independent information through audits for the citizens of North Dakota. We do this by following our core values: respect, excellence, leadership, integrity and teamwork.

  • Plan, direct, and conduct audits of financial statements under AICPA Clarified Statements on Auditing Standards, Government Auditing Standards, and, where applicable, Uniform Guidance as applies to Single Audits.
  • Prepare audit reports of a moderately complex nature or assist in the preparation of audit reports of complex nature.
  • Assist client with preparation of financial statements and related note disclosures.
  • Conduct pre- and post- audit conferences.
  • Develop or modify and apply tests of internal controls and compliance to identify deficiencies in internal control or compliance.
  • Develop and communicate informative recommendations for improvement in internal control or compliance.
  • Assist with developing and preparing estimates and proposals for audit services for new and existing clients.
  • Supervise professional and paraprofessional staff to ensure efficient and effective completion of audit objectives.
  • Assist with review of local government reports prepared and submitted by independent public accounting firms.
  • Assist with review of Financial Reports in Lieu of and Audit for local government entities not requiring an audit.
  • Travel – Fieldwork for audits will be conducted away from the office and the estimated travel is 35% (day trips/overnight)

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Three years of auditing experience which includes functioning as a lead auditor.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing with colleagues and audit clients.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and self-starter.
  • Requires successful completion of the hiring process, including reference checks, and extensive background and criminal record checks.
  • Ability to recognize deficiencies and develop constructive recommendations for improvement.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have a professional certification such as CPA, CIA, CFE, CISA, etc. and /or is planning on obtaining a certification in the near future.
  • Proficient with computers including the use of the Microsoft Office Suite including advanced knowledge of spreadsheet applications such as Excel.
