The North Dakota Department of Financial Institutions is responsible for chartering, regulating, and examining North Dakota state-chartered banks, credit unions, and trust companies.  The Department also licenses and regulates Money Brokers, Mortgage Loan Originators, Mortgage Loan Servicers, Deferred Presentment Service Providers (Payday Lenders), Collection Agencies, Debt Settlement Service Providers, and Money Transmitters conducting business in North Dakota.  Please be aware the Department does not regulate all institutions doing business in North Dakota.  Specifically, we do not regulate federally-chartered banks or credit unions.

(NMLS ID 1185542), a Seattle-based cryptocurrency money transmitter and kiosk operator, for violations of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and anti-money laundering (AML) laws that safeguard the financial system from illicit use.

Company wrongly charged customers for force-placed insurance 

Washington, D.C. – North Dakota Department of Financial Institutions (NDDFI) and 48 state financial agencies in 47 other states have reached a $15.5 million settlement with one of the nation’s largest mortgage servicers for improperly imposing “force-placed” insurance costs on borrowers who already had active homeowners insurance policies.

BISMARCK, N.D. — The North Dakota Department of Financial Institutions has released a new financial literacy resource on crypto ATMs, now available on its website, to help residents understand how these machines work, what protections state law provides, how to avoid scams and how to verify licensed operators. The resource offers clear and simple answers to common questions about crypto ATMs, also called virtual currency kiosks.
