Medical Audit Specialist

Location: Bismarck, ND State Capitol

Hiring Salary: $4,500 - $5,500

 

Summary of Work

The North Dakota State Auditor’s Office is working towards a better government by providing truthful, objective and independent information through audits for the citizens of North Dakota. We do this by following our core values: respect, excellence, leadership, integrity and teamwork.

  • Review and identify claims for overpayment.
  • Perform audits of medical records to ensure all assigned codes are accurate and supported.
  • Review discrepancies in medical data.
  • Research laws and regulations for medical programs.
  • Adhering to policies, procedures and regulations to ensure compliance
  • Travel is generally two weeks or less per year.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree related to business, medical, or associated field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of related work experience.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing with other office employees, audit clients, and those charged with governance.
  • Must be able to visualize, articulate, conceptualize or solve both complex and uncomplicated problems by making decisions that are sensible, given the available information.
  • Requires successful completion of the hiring process including references, background, and criminal record checks.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Medicaid and knowledge of healthcare terminology and coding systems.
  • In addition to the required business or medical related degree, have a master’s degree, an additional major, or a minor in public administration, business, management, finance, economics, communications, information systems, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of disease entities and disease process, medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, medication purposes, and administration, and the purpose and definitions of common medical procedures.
  • Strong writing skills including experience with Microsoft Office applications.
