The North Dakota Office of State Tax Commissioner and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) offer North Dakota taxpayers the option to file their income tax returns electronically.  Through e-file, the majority of North Dakotans are able to file their state return at the same time they file their federal return.

Electronic filing is a fast and accurate way to file your state and federal income tax returns. To file your North Dakota return electronically, you must file it with your federal return. Your tax information is keyed into a computer and sent to the Internal Revenue Service, which then sends the state portion to the North Dakota Office of State Tax Commissioner.

You can file electronically through a tax preparer, through your own PC using software you purchase, or through an Internet online service.
