Goehring approves funding for Ag in the Classroom programs

BISMARCK – Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has approved $100,000 in grants to develop and conduct Agriculture in the Classroom programs through June 2025.

“Agriculture in the Classroom programs provide teachers with lesson materials and other tools to help them make agriculture part of everyday learning for their students,” Goehring said. “These programs help young people understand where their food comes from and how to make healthy food choices.”

The grants include:

• North Dakota Geographic Alliance, $3,000 to conduct teacher tours.
• North Dakota State University Agriculture Communications, $17,136 to develop, edit and publish North Dakota Ag Mag for third-, fourth- and fifth-grade classrooms.
• North Dakota FFA Foundation, $25,000 to conduct a mini-grant program.
• National Agricultural Genotyping Center, $13,000 to conduct Feeding and Fueling the World: A Nourish the Future - Ag Biotech Workshop for middle and high school science teachers.
• Ag Foundation, $8,000 to conduct Fargo Living Ag Classroom events.
• Red River Valley Fair Foundation, $3,000 to purchase agriculture displays geared for K-12 in the Agricultural Education Center.
• Morton County Farm Bureau, $6,000 to conduct Morton County Ag Day events.
• North Dakota Farm Bureau Foundation, $24,864 to conduct educational outreach activities to students and educators cultivating an understanding and appreciation for agriculture.

Funding for Agriculture in the Classroom programs was appropriated by the 2023 North Dakota Legislature.
