North Dakota GIS Users Conference - September 11-13, 2007
Keynote: Cadastre in the Rough Rider State - Not a Dirty Word like Some People Think
Automated land information, in the
21st century, will become an increasingly important asset for local, state and federal government. The list of business
drivers that demand digital cadastral data, in particular, are growing each day. A decade ago, automated cadastral data
seemed to be a “long shot” to develop across a region, much less a state.
However, this is no longer the case. The time to implement a digital cadastral database in every state is now and the method is through state and local government collaboration.
This discussion will highlight information collected through a recent National Academy of Sciences report entitled, “National Land Parcel Data, A Vision for the Future”. It will share strategies that could be adopted in North Dakota, today.
Unlike the previous decade, a digital cadastre is not a dirty word. It is no longer a question of will North Dakota and other states develop a statewide cadastral database, the question before us is, when?
