Using GPS tracking devices that are attached to offenders, the DOCR uses the Global Positioning System to track dangerous and high risk sexual offenders in the community. This allows the DOCR to determine the location of an offender and record their position at regular intervals (1 minute). The recorded locations of the offenders are stored in the tracking device and transmited to a central location and that data is reviewed regularly by DOCR Parole Officers via the Internet Website of the GPS Vendor.
The DOCR implimented it's GPS Program in September 2005 and has used it on hundreds of offenders since that time. For more information on the DOCR GPS Program or GPS in general, contact Terry Grumbo.
