The South Unit is a preferred housing unit, designed to enhance rehabilitative efforts. Residents seeking or maintaining South Unit status must show a commitment to achieving rehabilitative goals, including adherence to an individual performance plan, institutional programming recommendations, and above average institutional adjustment.
The South Unit is a preferred housing unit. It is also equipped to deal with inmates having major medical concerns or those, which fall within the guidelines of the American’s with Disabilities Act, wherein placement in the South Unit is found to be the most appropriate accommodation. Six cells are currently accommodated for ADA use.
The South Unit provides programs and opportunities in the areas of treatment, education, employment, medical, religious, and personal wellness to the levels allowed within the confines of the unit’s overall mission.
To provide a safe and secure environment for both staff and inmates. Success will be measured by the rate of escape attempts, the rate of inmate to staff violence and inmate-to-inmate violence.
To provide an environment which affords the opportunity to seek treatment, education, employment, medical, and wellness activities allowing the inmate to improve self-esteem and remain active. Success will be measured by the rate of participation in the program activities. Secondary success will be measured by the level of control maintained in the unit and the level of stability maintained by the unit residents.
To provide a process, which allows each offender housed in the unit the opportunity to progress to specialized or less restrictive units through institutional programs, adjustment, and their individual performance plan compliance. Success will be measured by the percentage of appropriate resident transfers through successful performance plan compliance as compared to residents restricted to movement due to non-compliance.
