PER 240 - WMD Radiological/Nuclear Responder Operations Course

This class will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb 20-22, 2013 at the Air National Gaurd and Fire Department in Fargo, ND. The Responder course draws from an Awareness level of knowledge the student has on the basics of radiation, possible health effects and hazard identification. The training focuses on basic radiological detection, survey instruments, risk-based response, crime-scene preservation, personal protective equipment (PPE), and radiological incidents. The course consists of both classroom instruction and scenario-driven, hands-on, performance-oriented practical exercises with actual radiological sources. Although every participant will be issued a radiation survey meter, participants are encouraged to bring their own from their home department or jurisdiction.

Target audience is emergency responders, including law enforcement agencies, fire departments, hazardous materials technicians, bomb squads, SWAT, public health services, emergency medical service personnel, or other emergency management personnel.

This course has been approved by the ND POST Board for 21 credits.

Registration Steps:
1.Register for an account in the Minnesota HSEM Training and Registration Tracking (TRT) system. If a person is not registered in our TRT, they will need to go to HSEM's website, click on the Training Tab and go to the Training and Registration Tracking (TRT) link to register for an account at: https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/hsem/training/Pages/default.aspx. Approval typically takes 1-3 business days. You will receive an email with your User Name and Password.
2.Prerequisite: Students must take the on-line Awareness (AWR-140-W). This course is available at www.nts-ctoscom Please bring your prerequisite completion certificate with you to the course. Also, please scan and email your AWR 140 completion certificate to HSEM.Training@state.mn.us so that we have it in your training file.
3.Once you have an account, you can sign up for the PER 240 course (You do not have to complete the prerequisite in order to sign up for the course, but you must have it in order to attend the course.
4.Last, you must obtain a FEMA Student ID and bring it with you to the class. You can obtain your Student ID at https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid
