He contracted hemorrhagic fever while on patrol from Hill 229 near the "Yoke". He was admitted to Company E, 1st Medical Battalion on July 5, 1952, evacuated to the 8228th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital in South Korea the following day where he died July 10, 1952.
