Biography:
LCDR Woods was flying an armed reconnaissance mission near Qui Vinh, North Vietnam. His A-1H was hit by antiaircraft artillery. Woods flew the burning aircraft 40 miles to the Tonkin Gulf, where he bailed out. A SAR helo arrived quickly, but LCDR Woods was already dead. He most likely drowned.
