Biography:

Not a registrant, under age. Born, Hillsboro, N. Dak., Jan. 31, 1898, of German parents. Occupation - farmer. Enlisted in Company F, 1st Infantry, North Dakota National Guard, at Fort Lincoln, on July 24, 1917. Served in Company F, 1st Infantry, North Dakota National Guard (Company F, 164th Infantry), to Jan. 18, 1918; Company M, 26th Infantry, to death. Grade: Corporal, April 4, 1918. Overseas from Dec. 15, 1917, to death. Wounded, slightly, July 13, 1918. Engagements: Defensive: Montdidier-Noyon. Offensive: Aisne-Marne. Defensive Sectors:Ansauville (Lorraine); Cantigny (Picardy).
