The dark columns in Legislative Hall are East Indian Rosewood and the light panels above the seating area is called Curly Maple. Since the Capitol Building was built in the 1930's, there is an art deco design throughout.
The Senate Chamber is presided over by the Lt. Governor. The woodwork on the walls is a quarter-sawed English Oak. The lighting is said to represent the sunset.
The Southwest elevator was put into operation in 1961. The elevators had people to operate them until 1991, when they were modernized. In 1994 the Southwest elevator was extended to the 18th floor.
This wood is a California Walnut, it is very rare. This is known as a wild figure veneer. If you look close & use your imagination a bit you can see a fox, lion and a bat.
