New Salem family wins dairy excellence award
BISMARCK – The 2011 Commissioner's Dairy Producers Award for Excellence has been presented to a Morton County farm family.
“Bryan and Vicki Hoesel and their son Russ operate an outstanding dairy facility,” said Wayne Carlson, North Dakota Department of Agriculture livestock development division director, representing Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring.
The Hoesels received their award Wednesday, during the 2011 North Dakota Dairy Convention in Mandan. The event is sponsored by the North Dakota Milk Producers Association.
“The Hoesels' record of compliance with state and federal dairy laws and regulations for somatic cell counts, bacteria counts and overall quality standards is exemplary,” Carlson said. “Their farm has an outstanding inspection record.”
Third generation farmers, Bryan and Vicki Hoesel recently turned management of the farm over to Russ. The Hoesels milk 115 cows on their farm near New Salem, selling the milk to Land O'Lakes. They also raise wheat, barley, sunflowers and corn.
