Governor proclaims ND Farmers Market & Growers Week
BISMARCK – Gov. Jack Dalrymple has proclaimed Aug. 4-10, as North Dakota Farmers Market and Growers Week.
“More than 50 farmers markets offer North Dakota consumers fresh, affordable and healthful food products sold directly from the farm,” said Dalrymple. “I encourage the people of North Dakota to celebrate the benefits of farmers markets and the bountiful production of our state's farmers and ranchers.”
Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring thanked the governor for issuing the proclamation, adding that farmers markets support farmers and ranchers by providing additional marketing outlets and increased revenue opportunities through direct-to-consumer sales.
“Our farmers markets also help develop local and regional food systems that support farms and ranches and enable farmers and consumers to interact,” Goehring said.
Goehring said most farmers markets in the state are listed in Local Foods Directory, published by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture (NDDA). Copies can be obtained by calling (701) 328-2231 or (800) 242-7535 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
