Export seminar available for ND food companies
BISMARCK – North Dakota food product exporting companies and persons interested in the food product export market are urged to register for a free seminar, “Prepare for Export Success,” Tuesday, Oct. 8, in Watertown, SD.
“Exports of consumer food products are outpacing domestic sales by 300 percent, spelling enormous opportunities for U.S. food companies,” said Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring. “This seminar will explore those opportunities and provide the information and resources needed to grow or start an export business.”
Presented by the Food Export Association of the Midwest, the seminar is sponsored by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture, South Dakota Department of Agriculture & the Minnesota Department of Agriculture.
The principal seminar speaker, Dennis Lynch of Food Export Midwest, will identify specific export opportunities and examine future prospects for food exports in two presentations: “How to Export,” and “Why Export?” Topics Lynch will discuss include:
- Export challenges and common pitfalls;
- What importers expect;
- How to become “Export Ready;”
- Classifying products for export;
- Export assistance and service providers;
- How to respond to export trade leads, and
- Creating a solid export quotation
Three food company executives, including Dan Hofland of Red River Commodities, Fargo, will describe and discuss their firsthand experiences in the export market.
Dana Pritschet, NDDA director of marketing and information, will provide an overview of North Dakota state programs and services for exporters. She and Food Export Midwest staff will also be available to meet with North Dakota companies.
