BISMARCK, N.D. – Winners of the 2020 Ag in the Classroom (AITC) Calendar Art Contest were recognized today at a news conference at the State Capitol. Third to fifth grade students were invited to submit original artwork about North Dakota agriculture for the contest to be used in a calendar for agricultural literacy.
“The contest helps students learn about North Dakota agriculture and how their food is raised and produced,” Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring said. “The resulting calendar teaches agriculture to students across the state through daily agriculture facts.”
This year’s winners and artwork placements are:
• Charley Moen, Fordville, third grade – Cover
• Haley Kaseman, Ashley, fifth grade – August
• Sophia Dominguez, Hebron, fifth grade – September
• Gabriella Hannig, Tower City, fourth grade – October
• Jayme Witmer, Park River, fifth grade – November
• Samantha Anderson, Park River, fifth grade – December
• Lucy Ruhland, Fargo, fifth grade – January
• Princess Ruzvidzo, Dickinson, fourth grade – February
• Josy Turck, Garrison, fourth grade – March
• Jacob Reiss, Dickinson, third grade – April
• Terran Tripp, Medina, fourth grade – May
• Branson Stroklund, Minot, fourth grade – June
• Marshall Bourbanis-Carter, Park River, fourth grade – July
The winners received certificates from the North Dakota Department of Agriculture and a $25 prepaid card from the North Dakota Bankers Association. Their artwork has also been published in the 2020-21 AITC school-year calendar, which will be distributed to classrooms around the state. Each day will feature a North Dakota agriculture fact.
A contest is held regularly to celebrate the contributions of farmers and ranchers and to increase awareness of the importance of agriculture in daily lives. The contest is administered by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture in cooperation with the North Dakota Bankers Association.
