9th annual Farmers Market & Local Foods Conference slated April 12
BISMARCK – The Dakota Grown Farmers Market and Local Foods Conference, focusing on the production, marketing and processing of locally grown foods and food products, is scheduled for Friday, April 12, at the Bismarck Civic Center.
“This ninth annual conference will draw on local experts and expertise on topics ranging from vegetable variety trials to social media to food processing rules and regulations,” said Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring, who will open the conference with a welcoming address at 8 a.m.
Goehring said the agenda includes panel discussions on “getting specialty crops to market” with growers, wholesalers, restaurant owners and school lunch officials, as well as presentations on agritourism and customer engagement.
The complete agenda is available at www.nd.gov/ndda/sites/default/files/legacy/resource/2013AgendaFMLocalFoodsConf.pdf.
“Of course, participants will also have plenty of opportunity to network with other growers, processors and marketers,” he said.
Sponsored by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture (NDDA) and the North Dakota Farmers Market & Growers Association (NDFMGA), the event will be held in conjunction with NDFMGA's annual meeting and election of board members.
The event, funded through a specialty crop grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is open to the public. Registration is $25 per person and includes all sessions and lunch. A registration card can be downloaded at www.nd.gov/ndda/sites/default/files/legacy/resource/FarmersMktLocalFoodsPostcardReg.pdf.
