There are 9 turkey farms in North Dakota that produce around 1 million birds annually. Each year, members of the North Dakota Turkey Federation present a live turkey for a Thanksgiving Pardon ceremony at the state Capitol building.

The Livestock Development Division regulates the movement of chicks, hatchling eggs, breeder flocks and hatcheries for compliance with the National Poultry Improvement Plan which is designed to reduce or eliminate major poultry-related diseases. 

The division also enforces licensing and bonding requirements for poultry dealers.
