Picking Sweet Corn to Help Your Neighbor in Need
Monday, August 21, 2017 - 9:00am to 5:00pm
Bismarck, North Dakota 58504
Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring planted a 3-acre plot of sweet corn at Lincoln Oakes Nursery earlier this Spring. The time has come to harvest the corn. The Commissioner is asking for volunteers to come and help pick. Once the corn is harvested it will be donated to the Great Plains Food Bank for distribution across the state as well as to local food pantries in the Bismarck/Mandan area.
If we have a large group of volunteers, we estimate the field could be picked in five hours. Any amount of time you can donate is much appreciated. If you are planning to volunteer, please bring a hat, sun screen, and closed-toed shoes or boots. Water and food will be provided. We are asking all volunteers to arrive by 9:00 am and use the south entrance to Lincoln Oakes off of Burleigh Avenue.
