Power BI is a collection of software services, apps, and connectors that work together to turn your unrelated sources of data into coherent, visually immersive, and interactive insights. Your data may be an Excel spreadsheet, or a collection of cloud-based and on-premises hybrid data warehouses. Power BI lets you easily connect to your data sources, visualize and discover what’s important, and share that with anyone or everyone you want.
Power BI can be simple and fast – capable of creating quick insights from an Excel spreadsheet or a local database. But Power BI is also robust and enterprise-grade, ready for extensive modeling and real-time analytics, as well as custom development. So it can be your personal report and visualization tool. It can also serve as the analytics and decision engine for group projects, divisions, or entire corporations.
Power Bi Desktop application is free to download from Microsoft. With the free Power Bi version users can save Power Bi files locally and share.
A Power Bi Pro license is $7.25 a month per user license. Power BI Pro Licensing allows users to share, distribute, collaborate on reports with others and embed reports to websites within a dedicated workspace. Workspaces are the place to collaborate with colleagues to create collections of dashboards, reports, and paginated reports. Then you can bundle that collection into an app and distribute it to your whole organization, or to specific people or groups.
