Remote Support Option

ITD is currently working with the Department of Emergency Services (DES) to provide a Remote Control/Support solution for end users without NDGOV accounts or for those on external networks.

ITD is currently working with the Department of Emergency Services (DES) to provide a Remote Control/Support solution for end users without NDGOV accounts or for those on external networks. The Enterprise Architecture (EA) Remote Access standard ST002-04.1 requires that all connections be via an ITD provided VPN solution. DES was granted an EA exemption from ST002-04.1 to implement a Remote Control solution from BOMGAR.

The processing of that exemption by EA identified other agencies and situations that could benefit from a similar tool, and the standard is currently being reviewed to see if it would be feasible for ITD to provide an enterprise solution for all agencies to use. If your agency would be interested in the use of such a product, please contact Jeff Quast at 328-1993 or jjquast@nd.gov so we can gauge the interest and develop a roadmap.

ArcGIS Online (AGO) is a cloud-based solution from Esri that allows users to share maps, data, services, and applications with each other, the public, or with organizations. During the 2013-15 Biennium, the state of North Dakota received funding to offer AGO at no cost to agencies and after that AGO usage would be billed back to state agencies. ITD is currently in the process of developing an enterprise approach for using AGO within state agencies to help reduce per user cost.

To assist state agencies interested in utilizing AGO, the North Dakota GIS Technical Committee created "Guidelines For Using ArcGIS Online."

Groundbreaking has begun for a new four-story building with 85,000 square feet. This building is being constructed by Lexstar and is located on 43rd Avenue and Normandy in north Bismarck. This new building is expected to be completed by July 2014. ITD's intention to leasing the new building is to have all ITD staff in one location, allowing us to better serve our customers. It will accommodate the growth ITD experienced over the past 12 years.

ITD staff is currently located in five different buildings: the Capitol, Dakota Network Carrier (DCN), Northbrook Mall, North Dakota Association of Counties, and ITD North (old Home Depot building). Being in different locations makes communication between our customers and internal staff very difficult.

New ITD Building Benefits

  • Improve internal employee communications
  • Improve agency culture
  • Improve overall work productivity
  • Co-locate Network Operations Center, Service Desk, and Computer Systems Tier II Staff
  • Strengthen continuity for Software Development Staff and Administrative Support
  • Reduce employee travel from building to building
  • Provide more efficient work space
  • Free additional office space for other agencies at the State Capitol

Additional Information

  • The Data Center will continue to reside at the State Capitol.
  • Some small office space for ITD will be retained at the State Capitol.

FrontRange Solutions, Inc. has been ITD’s Customer Service Management software vendor for over 15 years now; whereas ITD and several other North Dakota state agencies are currently using FrontRange’s IT Service Management solution called ITSM. This year FrontRange announced they have developed a hybrid IT service management strategy; delivering a new product called HEAT 2013. This hybrid product is designed to provide customers with the flexibility of a choice; supporting on-premise, multi-tenant cloud, and/or hybrid deployments from a single, unified platform.

HEAT 2013 was released at the end of May for general availability, with a migration path for existing customers planned for later this summer.  ITD’s roadmap for migration to this new platform will be planned later this fall. ITD is very excited for HEAT 2013 and all it has to offer in advanced technology features for its user; and for our customers we look forward to enhancing your experience by providing a  customer self-service portal. This new platform also allows for integration of incident management and request fulfillment. That being said, we embrace FrontRange’s branding…”The HEAT is on!”
