BISMARCK – Chief Information Officer (CIO) Shawn Riley, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Sean Wiese and ITD security expert Shane Swanson will present on several IT topics at the CyberCon 2018 conference Oct. 2-3 at Bismarck State College. The inaugural conference, which encompasses cybersecurity and critical infrastructure topics, features private and public sector experts from around the nation.
Riley will present from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, on the state of cybersecurity. He will discuss North Dakota’s statewide efforts to provide computer science and cybersecurity training and resources to students, educators and the workforce as part of the state’s “K-20W” initiative.
CISO Sean Wiese will participate in a panel from 3 to 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, titled “Public Policy’s Role in Cybersecurity.”
Shane Swanson will present from 3 to 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, on “Hacking Humans, Real Case Studies on Physical Security Attacks.”
“North Dakota’s goal is to lead the nation in cybersecurity education and training for our students and workforce,” Riley said. “This conference is a great opportunity to continue to engage with industry experts and public officials who can help us better understand the threat and the opportunities to protect our citizens, our systems and train our next generation of cybersecurity professionals.”
The conference builds on the state’s continued focus on cybersecurity, including the educational collaboration with Palo Alto Networks and Bismarck State College announced in July that will grow the college’s Cybersecurity and Computer Networks Program.
Registration information for the conference can be found on BSC’s website. The conference is open to small business owners, students, policymakers, IT professionals and interested community members.
