Pioneer Email Service Changes

On January 15, ITD will apply a series of changes to Pioneer Email. Prior to the upgrade, users are required to make some setting changes in their email client. There will be a brief service interruption during the upgrade, as detailed in the Request for Change.

Email Client Update Instructions


  • Security & Domain: Pioneer will utilize an additional level of security when sending messages. It will also change from using the domain to These changes require users to update settings in their email client. Instructions are available below.
  • Webmail Interface: Users will notice a new look when accessing Pioneer online. The current interface, called “horde,” is being replaced with “Roundcube” to provide a better user experience.
  • Mailbox Quotas: User mailboxes will be limited to 1GB (1024MB). Currently, there is no limit. Users whose mailbox is over 1GB at the time of upgrade will not be able to send or receive email. ITD will notify these users in a separate email, prior to the upgrade, and ask them to delete or archive old messages until they are under the mailbox limit.
  • Sending Email: Currently, users cannot send email from their email client unless they are connected to the state network. After the upgrade, users will be able to send email from anywhere they are connected to the internet.
