The Technology Architecture (TA) team discussed the recent release of Windows 10 and what if any issues agencies are aware of. There is no support for our VPN in Win10 currently, and the vendor has indicated 2 to 3 months before a solution is expected. There are also issues with SCCM pushing out updates to Win10 clients, and a fix for that is not expected until Q4 2015. There may also be an issue with Win10 on older versions of VMware.
ITD will begin testing Win10 ASAP on 20 new laptops and MS Surfaces, and hopes to conclude testing by the end of October. SharePoint will be used to document the test results, and some agencies have expressed interest in opening the testing results site to agencies to participate and document results. ITD is also talking to Microsoft to see if a presentation on Win10 is possible, and possibly training for admin or support staff. The agencies attending also discussed their plans and schedules for migration to Win10, and most are expecting to wait until the January 2016 timeframe and use their normal cyclic hardware replacement process to move to Win10.
The NASPO (formally WSCA) ValuePoint Premium Saving Packages were reviewed, as OMB is close to a final refresh for the contract. The Technology Architecture agreed to continue endorsing the NASPO packages and is pleased with the service and breadth of offerings on the contract. The pre-final specs on the hardware is available now on the EA SharePoint site, and will be available for public access on OMB’s site sometime in September.
Finally, the TA team reviewed the results of the recent Remote Support survey. There will be some follow-up work with agencies to more accurately gauge licensing needs, so more information will be published as it’s gathered. We are hoping to have an agency that is currently using one of the top products to do a demo at the September TA meeting.
Enterprise Architecture (EA) interweaves business and IT together. It consists of the vision, principles, and standards that guide the purchases and deployment of technology within the enterprise.
