The North Dakota English Language Learner programs offer students opportunities to develop their English language skills while also learning academic content. The districts across the state receive support from NDDPI through training and resources for identification and screening of English language learners to better assist them in determining which students would benefit from services. Once identified, the schools then provide ELL staff to create an individualized language plan for each student and work with those students through best practices of language development to improve their English language and academic content skills. Districts must use research-based instructional program models to ensure high quality instruction is being provided.
