North Dakota Department of Public Instruction aspires to have all students graduate choice ready with the knowledge, skills and disposition to be successful in whatever they choose to do, whether they pursue a post-secondary degree, enroll in a technical college, enter the workforce or join the military. To ensure students are reaching this goal, state students take part in annual assessments in English Language Arts (ELA), Math, and Science. ELA/Math are given in grades 3-8 and once in high school. Students are assessed in 4, 8, and once in high school for science. Assessment results are used for district and state accountability and to ensure our North Dakota students are mastering state standards.
