The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is a federally mandated assessment program of the National Center for Education Statistics within the U.S. Department of Education. Federal law requires states and public school districts that receive Title I funds to participate in the biennial grade 4 and 8 NAEP reading and mathematics assessments. The federal government assumes the full cost of administering these assessments. Results from the NAEP are made public on the NAEP website located here and in publications.
