The Laying the Foundation (LTF) portion of National Math + Science Initiative (NMSI) was kicked off in June 2015 and, after receiving extremely positive feedback from participants, successful 2016, 2017, and 2018 events were held. The NDDPI and NMSI have secured the dates and location for the Summer 2019 LTF event.

What Is Laying the Foundation?
NMSI’s LTF professional learning is dedicated to providing high quality, content-based, pedagogy driven teacher training for grades 3-12. These trainings are broken down into the following categories:
  • Elementary (grades 3-5): Math/Science or English/Social Studies
  • English: Middle School or High School
  • Math: Middle School or High School
  • Science: Middle School Science, High School Biology, or High School Chemistry
This professional learning consists of four days of training per year over the course of three years per content area (except elementary, which is two years per content area). Participants are provided with hands-on learning, resources, and mentoring in vertically aligned content groups. This is the fourth year this professional learning will be offered at no charge. Hundreds of North Dakota educators have been involved in LTF over the past years.
