Able-Bodied Adults Without DependentsClosed Able-bodied adults between the ages of 18-54 (subject to change) without dependents (ABAWDs) are eligible for participation in SNAP for only three (3) months within a 36-month period of time without working or participating in a work or welfare program for at least 20 hours weekly, averaged monthly, unless exempt. After exhausting the initial three (3) allowable months, ABAWD individuals meeting certain criteria may qualify for three (3) additional months of participation in the 36-month period. (ABAWD)

402 Countable Months-Exemptions


Overview

GENERAL RULE- ABAWDs are limited to three months of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits in a 36-month period unless they are:

  1. Fulfilling the work requirement as defined in this policy.

  2. Meet an exemption as defined in this policy.

  3. Covered under a current geographic waiver. Refer to 403 Geographic Waiver.

  4. Receiving benefits for prorated months.
