Overview

An ABAWD is an individual ages 18 through 64 who is able to work and has no children under 14 years of age in their SNAP householdClosed People who buy and prepare food together. Spouses, parents, and children who live together are usually counted as the same household.. An individual is not considered an ABAWD until the month following their 18th birthday and is no longer considered an ABAWD the month they turn age 65 .

 

The ABAWD provision limits the receipt of SNAP benefits to three initial months and up to three extended months in a 36-month period. Any ABAWD meeting the work requirements will not have time limits.
