August 26, 2002
Bismarck, N.D. - Carol K. Olson, Executive Director of the North Dakota Department of Human Services, announced today that Dean Mattern of Minot has been named director of the department's human resource division. Mattern will join the department in late September.
"We are very pleased to be able to offer this position to Dean. The department will benefit from his knowledge and experience," Olson said.
Mattern has served as human resource director of Edgewood Living Communities since 1996 and has also worked as a consultant specializing in health care management, human resource management, strategic planning, and hospital accreditation. He served as chief executive officer of UniMed Medical Center in Minot from 1989 to 1995.
The Department of Human Services employs over 2,000 people, and its human resource division also provides essential support to all county social service boards in North Dakota by rating and scoring social service job applications, consulting on state and federal employment law, and assuring compliance with merit system rules and regulations. Eighty-four percent of the department's employees work at human service centers located in each of the governor's eight planning regions, or at the State Hospital in Jamestown, or the Developmental Center in Grafton.
